Faculty Award and Recognition
Recognition of faculty endeavor and achievement has always been a priority of the university and duly notes the contributions made by faculty in support of enhanced scholastic opportunities and engaged development of the region.
In 2003, the Faculty Recognition Banquet was initiated to reflect on and celebrate many of the outstanding accomplishments of MSU Faculty. Dr. Terry Strieter, Faculty Regent, and Dr. Gary Brockway, Provost, worked with Mr. Jim Carter and Dr. Don Robertson, Vice Presidents, to transition the official acknowledgement of various faculty accolades to a single university event. The Faculty Recognition Banquet has become an MSU Tradition supported by alumni, faculty, and students. The following awards sponsored by academic affairs, student affairs, and the MSU Alumni Association are acknowledged at the annual event held the third Thursday of April during the campus’s Scholars Week celebration.

Outstanding Research Awards
The Research Policy Committee (RPC) awards an Outstanding Research Award to a faculty member in each college and school (including University Libraries) recognizing outstanding research, scholarly or creative activity during the previous calendar year. (Thus, the award presented in April, 2014 would be for research outcomes in 2013). The Outstanding Research Awards provide faculty members annual recognition for research in like manner as the Regents Teaching Awards provide annual recognition for teaching.
Each Outstanding Research Award recipient will be honored during a University-wide Scholars’ Week event, be recognized in the program of the Faculty Recognition Banquet, and will be presented a plaque in honor of this achievement. Faculty members who wish to be considered for the award must submit their nomination form and supporting materials to their faculty representative on the RPC, or award committee in their college. The deadline for submission of nomination varies by college. Check with your RPC representative or college award committee for the deadline date to submit a nomination.
